MYTHOLOGY

Vastu Purusha embodies the spirit of a site, depicted as a human figure lying with his head facing the North-East (Eshanya Kona) and his legs towards the South-West (Nairuti Kona), perfectly aligning with a square.

According to Hindu mythology, during a fierce battle with the demon Andakasur, Lord Shiva’s sweat fell to the earth, creating a powerful entity known as Vastu Purusha. This being, who became a devoted follower of Lord Shiva, was granted a special boon.

In his intense meditation, Vastu Purusha asked Lord Shiva for the power to devour the three worlds, symbolising his profound devotion and immense strength.

Lord Shiva granted Vastu Purusha’s wish, instilling fear among the other gods. Alarmed by his newfound power, they united to restrain him. The gods and divine beings pinned Vastu Purusha down, holding him both from within and without, forcing him face-down to the earth.

In his plight, Vastu Purusha earnestly prayed for divine intervention. Moved by his devotion, Lord Brahma bestowed a boon upon him: Every individual would honor Vastu Purusha before beginning construction and during “Grah Pravesh.” In return, Vastu Purusha would protect those who treated him with respect.

Those who follow the principles of Vastu Shastra are promised significant benefits, including enhanced health, prosperity, and harmonious relationships.
